Department of Computer Science in Doon University came into existence in the year 2015 as a part of School of Technology. We are a growing department, with an aim to impart quality education, theoretical as well as practical, in the field of Computer Science.
Computer Science is a dynamic and rapidly growing area that has become an integral part of the world that we live in today. We are moving ahead with a world welcoming the era of Artificial Intelligence which has opened various Job opportunities for Computer Scientists to grow and broaden their skillset. All the industry domains now-a-days are connecting themselves with technological advancement, either it be an agriculture industry or healthcare, electronics, defense, transportation or any other. The department provides two undergraduate programmes: four years B. Sc. (Computer Science) honours with research/ three years B. Sc. (Computer Science) honours and four years B. Tech (Computer Science and Engineeering) programme as per NEP framework. It also facilitates two master programmes, i.e. two years M. Sc. (Hons.) in Computer Science and two years M. Tech (Computer Science & Engineering) along with provides Ph. D. in Computer Science which not only focus on the core academics to strengthen the fundamentals of computational and mathematical ideas but also aims to promote the students towards the development of soft skills in project management, team work and communication etc. As a government university, these courses are offered for a comparative low-fee as these are high in demand and very popular among other universities. The department has highly qualified and committed faculty members who have earned their doctoral degrees from prestigious institutions such as IITs and NITs.
In addition, to enhance the knowledge/skillset of students in various emerging areas such as Natural language processing, Machine learning, Cloud Security, Cloud Computing, Cyber security, Computer Vision etc., department offers various elective subjects along. To bridge the gap between academia and industry, the department has also initiated MoU with Oracle Academy, ICT Academy and Asian University of Taiwan etc., to conduct research-oriented training programs/seminars/workshops to open enormous number of pathways to the students. This will make them a very promising aspirant as a data scientist, cloud administrator, cloud analyst, application programmer, software engineer, creative coder, video game developer, systems analyst, cyber security expert, and many more roles.
The Department of Computer Science is also working on digitization and software related to Academic Bank of Credit, DigiLocker, admission and examination process etc. in accordance with the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020.
The department has set up a Marico Centre for Women Empowerment (COWE) in Doon University with an aim to train the female students of the university in various technological areas. The department organized two training programs (80-100 hours) on Data Analytics and Microsoft Powe BI for women's skill enhancement under COWE in collaboration in 2022 and 2023 respectively. The department often organizes research seminars/guest talks of academic and industry persons to make the students aware of the open research challenges.
Research comprises creative work undertaken systematically to increase knowledge, including knowledge of man, culture, and society, and the use of this stock of knowledge to devise new applications. The department of Computer Science aims to establish state-of-the research facilities to foster creative research work in diversified domains of Computer Science such as Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, Privacy and Forensics, Internet of Things, Block chain, Data Science / Big Data (Datamining), Wireless Networks, Machine Learning (Deep Learning), Image Processing, (Computer Vision), Natural Language Processing (NLP), etc. The faculties of Computer Science are engaged in research through international collaborations and are working on emerging research challenges.
Currently, the department has established an Advanced Cyber Security Research (ACSR) lab to carry out cybersecurity-related research activities supported by projects funded by national funding agencies:
Towards pursuing these projects, an advanced Cyber Security Research Lab has also been established in the department.
An authored book on Cloud Security: Attacks, Techniques, Tools and Challenges by the faculty of the department has also been published by reputed publication house Taylor & Francis. The department run some security courses as well such as Cloud Security.
