School of Design

School of Design

Located on the scenic campus of Doon University in Dehradun, the School of Design is dedicated to advancing design education, research and innovation through interdisciplinary learning, creative practice and socially responsible engagement. Situated in the ecologically and culturally rich Himalayan region, the School offers a distinctive environment where design intersects with science, technology, humanities and the arts to address complex societal and environmental challenges.

Design has emerged as a powerful catalyst for innovation and sustainable development. It is no longer confined to the creation of products or visual communication, but serves as a systematic, human-centred approach to understanding problems and developing meaningful solutions. The School embraces this broader perspective by fostering creativity, critical inquiry, research and technological competence, enabling students to respond to contemporary challenges through thoughtful and responsible design.

The School combines studio-based learning with research-led pedagogy, industry collaboration and community engagement. Students develop the knowledge and skills to understand human behaviour, culture, technology, sustainability and emerging design practices while working on real-world problems. Through this integrated approach, the School prepares graduates to become designers, researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs and future leaders who contribute positively to society and the environment.

As part of Doon University, the School is committed to making high-quality design education accessible while building a vibrant ecosystem of research, innovation and professional practice. It seeks to strengthen collaborations with academia, industry, government and communities, while promoting ethical design practices, respect for intellectual property and socially meaningful innovation.
