The Doon University, located in the lush green foothills of Shivalik, is dedicated to promoting excellence in teaching and research while offering a full range of multi-disciplinary academic programs at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. It is a unitary and residential university located on the outskirts of the city and has a beautiful campus with state-of-art infrastructure, stunning architecture, and a soothing environment. Aiming at creating an autonomous and accountable institution of higher learning, the university was established by the Government of Uttarakhand by the Doon University Act, 2005 (Uttaranchal Adhiniyum Sankhaya 18 of 2005) and recognized under 12 (B) of the UGC Act. School of Environment & Natural Resources (SENR) is a flagship school of Doon University having high scientific output and accorded FIST grant (DST Gol) at the departmental level.

The ARIES (Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences) is an autonomous institute functioning under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India. It is located at Manora Peak (Alt-2km) in the Nainital District of Uttarakhand. ARIES (http://www.aries.res.in) is a premier Atmospheric Sciences, Astronomy & Astrophysics, and Solar Physics research institute. The main research interests of Astronomy & Astrophysics are star cluster and star formation and galactic and extra-galactic astronomy. The research in atmospheric sciences focuses on atmospheric aerosol and trace gas measurements and their impact on climate change. Manora Peak is recognized as one of the unique sites for climate change studies in the central Himalayan region.
